A FAVOURITE VENUE

As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the joy and privilege of documenting love stories in countless venues across the years. With each wedding comes a new setting, a new backdrop to frame those once-in-a-lifetime moments. While I’ve enjoyed working in a wide variety of locations, there are a few venues that have truly captured my heart -- and one that continues to rise to the top is Heritage Park Historical Village in Calgary, Alberta.

Originally conceived in 1961 and officially opened on July 1, 1964, Heritage Park was created as a living museum, designed to immerse visitors in Western Canadian history and culture. With its rich collection of authentic buildings, period costumes, and historically significant exhibits -- including an Indigenous encampment, a Hudson's Bay Company fort, a pre-railway settlement, and a First World War-era railway village -- it’s more than just a venue. It’s a portal to the past, and an absolutely enchanting place to say “I do.”

From a photographer’s perspective, the possibilities at Heritage Park are endless. The diversity in architecture, gardens, and landscapes makes every corner of the park feel like a new chapter in your wedding day story. Picture exchanging vows aboard a vintage paddlewheeler as it glides across Glenmore Reservoir during golden hour, or dancing the night away in a reception space surrounded by antique automobiles, gas pumps, and vintage signage. You could enjoy a leisurely stroll hand-in-hand through the beautiful gardens by Prince Street, or ride together in a horse-drawn buggy past charming old-world storefronts. One of my favourite ceremony and brunch spots is the Wainwright Hotel and Bar Room -- it's cozy, elegant, and filled with period charm. And don't even get me started on the Prince's House and the flower lined path for the perfect outdoor ceremony!

Beyond the visual magic, what makes Heritage Park truly special is the people. I’ve had the pleasure of working with the kindest and most accommodating staff -- many of whom go above and beyond to help us discover hidden photo locations and ensure every couple feels cared for. The food and service are equally outstanding, from beautifully presented brunch buffets to diverse dinner offerings and sweet treats that guests rave about long after the day is done.

If you’re dreaming of a wedding steeped in character, charm, and unforgettable experiences, Heritage Park Historical Village is a venue that will not only deliver but leave a lasting impression on everyone involved. It’s a place where history, hospitality, and heartfelt moments come together in the most beautiful way.
