THE GIFT OF LOVE
I consider myself incredibly fortunate to work with clients from all walks of life. Each and every one of them brings something unique and special to the table, and I'm continuously grateful for the variety of people I have the privilege to serve. That being said, there’s one thing I’ve come to realize about all my clients: they’re always the best clients. Call me biased, and I’d be the first to agree -- but I’d also respectfully disagree with you. You see, when it comes to Rebekah and Chris, they undoubtedly belong in the "best client" category, no question about it.
From the moment Rebekah and I connected on our consultation call, I had a sense deep down that this was a couple I’d be grateful to work with. And sure enough, the connection was instant. Rebekah’s infectious laughter and vibrant energy are impossible to ignore. You can’t help but feel a surge of joy in her presence -- it’s contagious. Chris, on the other hand, is more stoic and quiet, creating a beautiful balance. While Rebekah is bubbly, full of life, and laughter, Chris offers a calm, grounding presence. Together, their energy is a perfect symphony. Honestly, the opportunity to work with them both was one of the greatest gifts I’ve received as a wedding photographer.
What was most striking about Rebekah and Chris from the very start was how they each expressed the deep love and importance they felt for one another. Their bond was palpable -- the kind of love that is unwavering, supportive, and genuine. From every conversation to every look shared between them, it was clear that they were truly each other’s best friend, confidant, and partner for life. The love they share is both inspiring and humbling, and it radiated throughout their entire wedding day. It wasn’t just about a celebration of their marriage; it was about the recognition of each other’s individual worth and how that love comes together to create something even more beautiful.
Rebekah and Chris chose to do a First Look before the ceremony, and it was a beautiful decision that truly set the tone for the rest of their day. A First Look is a quiet, intimate moment where the couple gets to see each other before the ceremony, and for many couples -- especially those who might feel a little nervous or anxious -- it’s an incredibly valuable experience. It allows them to privately share their excitement and emotions, without the pressure of having to walk down the aisle in front of everyone. It’s a moment to truly see each other, without distractions, and to enjoy the anticipation of what’s to come. For Rebekah and Chris, the First Look was not just about easing any pre-ceremony jitters, it also gave them a moment to breathe, to take in the gravity of the day, and to connect with one another before the whirlwind of celebrations began. This personal, quiet exchange between the couple also helped them feel more grounded and present throughout the day. It allowed them to relax into the ceremony, knowing they had already shared a special, intimate moment. Additionally, it helped streamline the timeline, making room for family photos, wedding party shots, and, of course, their own portraits before the ceremony.
The day we spent together capturing their wedding was overflowing with love, and it wasn’t just the couple that radiated this warmth. Their guests, family, and friends all seemed to exude the same energy, making it such a delight to be part of their celebration. And then, of course, there’s the spectacular setting -- the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Calgary, AB. Heritage Hall, with its remarkable architecture, only added to the beauty of the day. Designed in the early 1920s by Richard Palin Blakey, its Collegiate Gothic style stands out with twin towers, gothic arches, intricate stonework, terrazzo flooring, and even gargoyles. It was an ideal backdrop to such a magical day.
SAIT truly delivered an exceptional experience, not just in terms of the stunning venue, but also in the seamless service they provided throughout the day. From a photographer's perspective, the architecture and natural lighting of the space offered endless opportunities to capture breathtaking moments, making it an absolute dream to work in. The grand, yet intimate feel of Heritage Hall paired with its timeless design created an unforgettable backdrop for every shot. Beyond just the aesthetics, the catering service at SAIT was equally remarkable. The food was not only delicious but beautifully presented, adding another layer of elegance to the entire experience. It was clear that SAIT understands the importance of creating a well-rounded, memorable event. For couples looking for a venue that combines historical charm with modern amenities and impeccable service, I would highly recommend SAIT. It’s the kind of place that elevates the entire wedding day, from the ceremony to the last bite of cake.
From beginning to end, Rebekah and Chris’ wedding day truly felt like a gift, not just for them, but for everyone who had the honor of witnessing their love.
