LOVE AT THE LAKE HOUSE
T and D's August wedding at The Lake House in Calgary, Alberta, was a stunning affair, thoughtfully curated down to every detail. Almost all guests wore shades of blue, perfectly complementing the decor and bridal party, creating a visual harmony that reflected the couple’s meticulous planning. T was one of the most organized brides I’ve ever worked with --Pinterest boards, floor plans and a minute-by-minute timeline ensured her day flowed beautifully. Remarkably, the day ran almost entirely on schedule!
Upon arrival, I met up with D and settled into the Lake House venue, a favourite location I’ve returned to many times. Watching guests arrive, it was immediately clear how deeply they were loved and supported. When T arrived, I captured a few “before” moments -- her stunning bouquet, her radiant smile and the calm anticipation before she stepped into the ceremony.
As D walked down the aisle, flanked by his daughters, quiet whispers of admiration filled the room. But when T made her entrance, the air seemed to hold its breath. A delicate pause at the start of the aisle to adjust her gown allowed everyone a moment to take in her beauty and D's expression said it all -- pure awe and love. Their ceremony was grounded in faith, reflecting the depth of their commitment. D's daughters were included in the celebration through heartfelt words and meaningful gifts and T and D shared their own handwritten vows -- deeply moving and full of sincerity. A final kiss and prayer sealed their union, leaving everyone inspired by the couple’s love and devotion.
The intimate portrait session that followed was a joy. With assistance from two friends who helped manage props and T's gown, we moved seamlessly from a rowboat on Lake Bonavista to a serene alcove of towering pines. T and D's adventurous spirit and trust in my creative direction allowed me to capture stunning, natural imagery that felt effortless and authentic.
The reception continued the celebration of love and community. Guests mingled and enjoyed their meals, while D surprised T with a choreographed dance that drew cheers and applause. Later, the couple wowed everyone with a beautifully executed waltz, opening the dance floor for all to join. The evening concluded with a second surprise -- a traditional Dutch dance and well-wishing ceremony -- leaving guests and couple alike full of joy and unforgettable memories.
As the evening drew to a close, T and D made their grand exit surrounded by a shower of birdseed and bubbles, the joyful clatter of tin cans marking their journey toward a perfectly married life. It was a playful, heartwarming moment that perfectly captured the spirit of their day.
T and D's wedding was a perfect blend of meticulous planning, faith, adventure and celebration. From the emotional ceremony to the playful portrait session, lively reception surprises and their joyous send-off, every moment reflected their love, creativity and the joy they bring to those around them.
