JOY & STORYBOOK LOVE
I first met Brittany and Jono in 2024, and from the very beginning, it felt like the start of something special. Brittany and I shared one of those client consults that instantly puts you at ease — the kind filled with easy laughter, shared excitement and dreamy conversations about what was to come. We spent most of our time giggling and imagining the beauty of their wedding day and when she shared that their venue would be the Calgary International Airport, I knew immediately this celebration would feel straight out of a storybook.
By the time we completed their engagement session in October of 2024, it was undeniable: this was a love story built to last the ages. Brittany and Jono’s dynamic is grounded, genuine and deeply rooted in the family they’ve intentionally built together. With six beautiful children shared between the two of them, their love unfolds naturally — layered with history, growth and a profound sense of devotion.
Arriving at the airport on their wedding day, I was struck by the breathtaking beauty of the space and that familiar, electric feeling that always comes with stepping into an airport — the quiet hum of movement, anticipation and possibility. The Marriott Terminal has hosted only a handful of weddings and it was an absolute honour to be part of the creative team bringing this one to life.
The day began with getting-ready images alongside Brittany and her incredible group of bridesmaids — beautiful, sassy, kind and effortlessly connected. I adore walking into a room and immediately feeling at home and this group radiated that warmth. There’s something truly special about women who can laugh together as though they’ve known each other their entire lives and in this case, some of them truly had. A few friendships dated all the way back to Grade Three. Imagining the growth, shared memories and life journeys that led them to this moment made the experience even more meaningful. As we created a stunning series of getting-ready images, Jono arrived for their First Look. I slipped away briefly to capture a few portraits of him: calm, composed and undeniably GQ. Jono was the definition of steady and grounded, quietly taking in the magnitude of the day ahead.
As Brittany stepped into her dress and I captured the final moments of her preparations, the airport scene unfolded behind her through the expansive window front of her room — planes arriving and departing, people moving with purpose. It felt symbolic, as if the world continued its rhythm while she stood on the edge of one of life’s most meaningful transitions.
With the First Look approaching, Brittany stepped back behind closed doors while I guided Jono into position. What followed was a truly beautiful reveal. As Brittany slowly approached him, anticipation and joy danced across her face, and when Jono turned around, the emotion unfolded in real time. I adore First Looks for this very reason: the unfiltered reactions, the quiet tears, the surprised smiles and the tender gestures that only exist when two people are fully present with one another.
Following their First Look, we moved into their intimate portrait session, creating some of my favourite images from the day. With editorial elegance and fine-art styling, these portraits spoke of strength, longevity and a love built to endure. There was a timeless quality to them —imagery that will feel just as powerful decades from now.
Our next stop was the Central Public Library in Calgary, another personal favourite. Its striking architecture and expansive spaces make it a dream for larger wedding parties and it offered the perfect backdrop for joyful group images and refined portraits alike.
Returning to the Marriott Terminal, it was time for the ceremony. Guests gathered as the space slowly filled with quiet anticipation, the soft hum of conversation giving way to stillness as the processional began. Loved ones took their seats, eyes shining, hearts full, ready to witness a moment long in the making.
As Brittany made her entrance, there was an immediate shift in the room — one of reverence, emotion and collective breath-holding. Jono’s expression said everything before a single word was spoken. The ceremony unfolded gently and intentionally, filled with meaningful glances, laughter woven between moments of emotion and vows spoken with sincerity and depth.
Led by Brittany’s brother, the ceremony felt deeply personal and authentic. His words reflected not only Brittany and Jono’s love story, but the family and life they have so beautifully built together. Emotion flowed freely, tears falling without restraint: a reminder that this was not simply a wedding, but a celebration of commitment, resilience and enduring love. As rings were exchanged and promises made, the room felt wrapped in warmth and unity. When they were pronounced married, joy rippled through the space — applause, smiles and a palpable sense of celebration marking the beginning of their next chapter.
Following family and friend portraits, the celebration transitioned seamlessly into the Marriott ballroom for the reception. The space was nothing short of breathtaking — soaring ceilings, cloud-like light fixtures and modern, elegant décor that set the perfect stage for an unforgettable evening. Guests mingled effortlessly, laughter floating through the room as old friends reunited and family members shared in the excitement of the day.
The dinner followed with a delicious buffet-style meal, complemented by an open bar and thoughtful touches that reflected Brittany and Jono’s personalities. Conversations flowed, glasses clinked and the warmth of connection was palpable in every corner. Every smile, every hug and every shared glance reminded me why weddings are such beautiful celebrations of love and life.
As the evening unfolded, heartfelt speeches brought a beautiful wave of emotion. Words of admiration, love and gratitude filled the room, eliciting both laughter and tears from the couple and their guests. It was a moment to pause, reflect, and truly honour the journey that brought Brittany and Jono to this day — a life and love that had grown stronger through family, resilience and shared memories.
Then came the first dance: a quiet, intimate interlude that contrasted beautifully with the energy of the room. Brittany and Jono moved together with ease, their eyes locked, expressions softened with joy and vulnerability. It was a moment that perfectly captured the essence of their relationship — steadfast, tender and full of genuine connection.
The remainder of the evening was filled with lively celebration: guests danced with abandon, joyful shouts and laughter echoing under the warm glow of the ballroom lights. The cake cutting was sweet and playful, a lighthearted highlight that brought smiles all around, while each new song brought another wave of shared energy and movement. Every moment was infused with love, community and the celebratory spirit of the day — culminating in an evening that felt both timeless and deeply personal.
By the time the night drew to a close, there was a sense of quiet satisfaction in the air: a feeling that this day, these images and these memories would be cherished forever. From start to finish, Brittany and Jono’s wedding was a true testament to love, family and the beauty of celebrating life’s most meaningful moments together.
